Summer Solstice Alignment

A fascinating astronomical event where the sunrise aligns perfectly with the prehistoric tholos chambers of the monument. Archaeologists lead special morning and evening tours explaining the sun alignment and Bronze Age solar architecture. It is an unforgettable experience which the central tower is what they walk into.

πŸ’‘ Visitor Tip: The dawn tour starts at 05:00. Tickets cost €10.00 (~$10.90) and must be pre-booked online as group sizes inside the central tower are strictly limited for preservation.

Feast of San Pietro

πŸ“ Torralba Piazza & Countryside

A major local religious celebration featuring folk parades, traditional poetry contests in Sardinian language (cantadores), and horse tournaments. Local families cook large pots of boiled sheep meat and offer it to visitors.

πŸ’‘ Visitor Tip: The horse tournaments (pariglie) are free and held in the fields near the village at 17:00. Keep a safe distance from the track as the horses run extremely fast.

Festival delle Bellezze

πŸ“ Nuraghe Santu Antine Courtyard

A regional concert series hosting live choral and chamber music inside the basalt courtyard of the nuraghe. The ancient stones offer magnificent natural acoustics under the night sky, creating a truly sacred atmosphere.

πŸ’‘ Visitor Tip: Tickets cost €8.00 (~$8.72) and are available at the entrance gate from 19:30. The concert starts at 21:00. Bring a small cushion to sit on the basalt blocks.

Sagra di Su Zichi

πŸ“ Bonorva (10 km from Torralba)

A culinary festival dedicated to Su Zichi, the ancient flatbread of Bonorva. Volunteers cook the bread in sheep broth, serving it with wild mushrooms and grated pecorino cheese. The event includes traditional folk dances and games.

πŸ’‘ Visitor Tip: The food stands open at 19:00. A full plate of Su Zichi bread costs around €5.00 (~$5.45). Take the local ARST bus from Torralba which costs €1.50 (~$1.64) one-way.

Sardinian Sagre & Folklore

A sagra is a traditional food festival celebrating local agricultural products, seafood, or wine. These festivals are the heart of Sardinian village life. Visitors are treated to long tables set up in the central squares, where local volunteers serve hand-prepared regional delicacies at very affordable rates.

Solstice Nights

Astronomical alignment openings occur annually around June 20-21. These night openings feature special stargazing workshops and lectures led by local experts in prehistory.
